Venice 12 April
HRH Charles of Bourbon, Duke of Calabria, visited in Venice
the Institute for Maritime Studies of the Italian Military
Navy
HRH
Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, visited
the Institute for Military Maritime Studies of the Italian
Military Navy in Venice. During his visit, Commander Arturo
Faraone presented a study on the Royal Navy of the Two Sicilies,
in which Lamberto Randogna, the most important historian of
pre-Risorgimento fleets, supported by statistics affirmed
that the Fleet of the Two Sicilies was “undoubtedly
the most important War Fleet of pre-unification Italian States
and this due to its ancient tradition, technical and administrative
organization, quantity and quality of crews, and in fact the
Earl of Cavour chose its Decrees, regulations, signals and
even officers’ uniforms when the Fleet of the Kingdom
of Italy was established.
Commander Arturo Faraone concluded that "if Italians
were curious just a little and really took the invitation
to consult State Archives or some Libraries to look for the
imaginary "facite ammuina"(“make noise”)
(which they would never find) they could nevertheless come
across the “General Decrees of the Royal Navy"
printed in Naples on 1 October 1818, that, in perfect Italian
– since the Italian language (and not the Neapolitan
dialect) was the official language of the Kingdom of the Two
Sicilies – set up how the service of the Fleet of his
Sicilian Majesty had to be carried out aboard or on ground,
through a large range of provisions.
Cavour, who had read them and found them “very good”,
understood that those had to be the regulations of the future
Italian Military Navy.

Naples 3 April
Opening of the VIII Multidisciplinary University Course on
development education "Diversity as Opportunity"
In the main hall of the "G.Verga" secondary school
on Via Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples, their RHH CHARLES AND
CAMILLA of Bourbon Two Sicilies, DUKES OF CALABRIA inaugurated
the eight multidisciplinary university course on development
education entitled: "DIVERSITY AS OPPORTUNITY ".
The course has been promoted by the Sacred Military Constantinian
Order of St. George, “Federico II” University
of Naples and UNICEF Italian Committee. The validity of an
Institution is undoubtedly rooted in its history, traditions
and values: however, an Institution can be credible and appalling
when it shows vitality and useful activities for humanity.
Among the important initiatives sponsored by the Constantinian
Order of St. George, this VIII Multidisciplinary Course of
development education based on "Diversity as Opportunity”,
is clearly a new and important challenge.
It is a new challenge because it is linked to the traditional
public charity and humanitarian assistance, such as the construction
of orphanages and family houses. This has been always part
of the Order’s activities, committed to disseminate
and communicate information through modern mass-media techniques
and University lectures.
It is an important challenge because the support to Naples
University and UNICEF ITALIA is a clear sign of the attention
that the Order pays to the education of young generations.
This allows a wide discussion involving the most important
members of the academic and cultural world of Southern Italy,
which is the core of Constantinian initiatives.
That’s why the Grand Master of the Constantinian Order
of St. George, HRH Prince Ferdinand of Bourbon Two Sicilies,
Duke of Castro, and its Grand Prefect, his son HRH Charles
of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, wanted to involve
the Order in an event that can hopefully constitute the momentum
for the cultural education of an ever greater number of southern
students and that makes Naples a vital centre of dialogue
between East and West.
All initiatives undertaken are evidence of the fact that the
Order has renewed itself – although it has maintained
its traditions – and has brought the noble values of
its tradition into present times by adjusting and inserting
them in present society.
