Royal Military Order of Saint George and Reunion

It was established on January, the 1st 819 by King Ferdinand I, King of Two Sicilies in order to reward the military value and merits. It was called like that to celebrate the meeting of properties near and beyond the Lighthouse (Naples and Sicily) in a single Realm.

In 1829 King Francesco I and in 1850 King Ferdinando II rifiormed the statutes.

The order is divided in eight grades: Knights of Grand Cross, that wear the strip around their necks, the cross and the star; the Grand Officials, that have the strip around the neck, the cross without Saint George and the star with reduced halo; Commanders, that have the strip around the neck and the cross; Officials, that wear the strip, a little tassel and a cross with buttons; Knights of Law, with strip and the cross with buttons; Knights of Grace that wear the strip and the cross with buttons, the Golden and Silver medals.

The decoration is composed of a ruby red  fleur-de-lis cross. In the center there is a white varnish where Saint Georges is portrayed while riding a horse and piercing the dragon, surrounded by a circular light blue varnish with the motto IN HOC SIGNO VINCES” and a laurel garland.

The cross corners are tied with two crossed swords. Saint George golden portrait hangs in the inferior part of the cross and the Real Crown is at the top of it.

In the back side, the rounded word “VIRTUTI” appears and in the center there is the portrait of the Saint.

The strip is light blue with a yellow edge.

The current Grand Master is HRH Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro.
